Wrapping Up with Energy: Music, High Fives, and a Sweet Farewell

[#facilitation + endings] A little while ago I got an idea to finish the end of a workshop or session with a bit of music and high fives. Specifically, I had stumbled on this tiny video on Instagram (https://lnkd.in/eXUu4GDF)

To recreate it, this week I really wanted to play a trending song in Egypt called Satalana ( https://lnkd.in/eME5Rv4q), but in case I made anyone who doesn’t like the song uncomfortable, we stuck to the existing playlist the school had in place, and did high fives, toffee eclairs while saying mission accomplished! It was a hoot.

If I did this again, I think I might have participants line up either side of the room and walk towards each other to high-five each other, it might be more swift. Similar to doing a collective unified clap (which I’ve heard is a Japanese way of ending a meeting).

For today’s final day of workshops, this was a fun way to round off. It also had this way of physically defining / closing the end of the workshop, which I felt created good energy.

I find it amazing that this was all because I saw someone share a fun POV post about their lessons. Sometimes it’s just through sharing these little details with each other that we can make big changes.

Have you ever tried something like this out before at the end of a workshop or lesson? Any variations you know of? Would love to know.

Sending special thanks to Mohamed Mahmoud Abdulazeem, Tabinda Mazhar, #Westview School Giza, and to the teachers who joined - especially the ones who travelled over 5 hours (!) to be there. An epic effort, which was really special. Good luck to them in using their Cambridge University Press Education #GlobalEnglish #resources for the upcoming year. 🙌

A note on Giza: it is very far from Cairo (IMO!), and is in massive growth mode, with lots of buildings under development. The school we had our workshop in today was state of the art and the most tech savvy setup I’ve seen for delivering a session. And yes, the road to get there was a rather hair raising drive!
