Two Cyclists, One Foreigner

[#productivity + a #shortstory] I was about 18, on my gap year, and teaching full time in Southern China (think: pre-olympics, 2007).

I was riding my electric bike.

I rode past two people entering a junction on bikes of their own.

Shortly after, I learned they had collided and caused a traffic accident behind me.

(Nobody was seriously hurt).

An observer of the whole event told me:

The two cyclists were so shocked to see a foreigner riding past they stopped looking at the road and failed to see each other as they rammed into each other.

Moral(s) of the story:

1: Expect the unexpected. (Always be prepared).

2: Keep your eyes on the road.

Do you see any others in this one?

Jackie Das - this post was inspired by your #thedasapproach #shortstory style. Sending thanks!

Photos: From the vault, Nanning, China - 2008: a time when cameras were separate objects from phones and came with time stamps. Me and my electric bike had quite the adventures in Southern China. Aided sometimes by helpful security guards who used to check the battery and other functions before I would head out. 🙂
