[#wellbeing + #vision] The first photo shows you the lush scenery of Bali. This photo is significant for me because it this spot is where I experienced a clear moment of vision - without glasses or contact lenses.
I later learned that I had experienced a ‘clear flash’.
I also later learned that having many "clear flashes" repeatedly, blink after blink, is 20-20 vision.
👀For reference, I used to be a myopic -2.00 / -2.25 in both eyes. I wore contact lenses daily from 16yrs onwards for more than a decade.
In 2018, frustrated by “the blur”, I stumbled across a whole bank of resources that showed me ways to slowly improve my eyesight without surgery. Keeping an open mind (and because the thought of surgery on my eyes terrified me), I got curious and started to learn.
Resources that helped me were:
👍🏾Greg Marsh’s audio-course
👍🏾Nathan Oxenfeld’s book & coaching
👍🏾Jake Steiner’s website & tools
👍🏾Podcasts by normal people who gradually improved their vision
It took years, but now I am now close to 20-20 vision in good daylight. In my last reading I am at -0.25/-0.5! My eyesight fluctuates a little, which is natural, but overall, I’m glasses free & love it.
I learned that in the same way we brush our teeth and take care of our hair and nails, our eyes need some maintenance too. I share here some simple things one can do to protect and maintain good eyesight - right away.
It’s helpful to be more conscious about a couple of things:
1️⃣ Blinking
I remember reading that people with poorer eyesight tend to stare without blinking. Blinking helps lubricate our eyes, which helps them to work effectively, so just being more conscious of blinking more often is one way to get started. Nothing over the top - just normal blinking, but more often.
2️⃣ Removing the crutch
Some people who lose their glasses find that their eyesight seems to improve. It was this that made researchers curious when they began to investigate natural eyesight improvement. Taking a break from your glasses or lenses can help give your eyes some relief, as long as it is safe to do so and you are able to function well.
3️⃣ Breathing
This is the most underrated form of healing ever. I still don’t do it enough. But breathing slowly and deeply with intention, especially when stressed is not just great for your body and mind, but also great for your vision.
💡Finally, a bonus tip/tool:
Putting a simple eye chart up near your desk or in your room can make such a difference over time. Glancing at it glasses-free every now and then throughout the day will help you notice differences in your vision. 🙂
So that’s it: 3+1 ways to start taking care of your eyes today. Possibly even in the next minute. Blink blink.😄
P.S. Photos are various test results over the last few years. The latest one got wet, so is a bit faded, but it is the one I happy danced around in the opticians about. He sent me off glasses free.💃🏻
