[#learning + #runningwisdom] One of the most important things I ever learned from running was on the mountain of Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain, UAE.
This was one of the physically hardest runs I have ever done.
I was practically crawling at some points.
I trained solo, and could only train solely on flat surfaces. Because… I live in the #desert.
Then I went straight for a 2-3 hour incline for this race.
This was a big training error on my part.
But I carried on up that mountain.
And I learned many things. (Especially from the mistake about training vs the race incline.)
But I learned to be alone with my own thoughts.
To hush the negative voice, and amplify the positive one.
To be my own cheerleader. (We all need to do that. It’s really hard.).
But most importantly:
I learned that if you set out up a mountain that seems like you’ll be alone, you won’t be for too long.
Because you’ll meet people along the way who chose the same path as you.
And they will propel you forward, inspire you and give you energy.
And that is something special.
So that is what I learned:
Start what you feel called to do - even if you start alone.
One foot in front of the other. (Maybe figuratively).
Along the way, your people show up and reveal themselves to you.
Just like C.S. Lewis wrote:
“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another:
"What! You too? I thought I was the only one!”

💭#overtoyou: Have you ever started something alone and then found friends along the way? Perhaps in your career, your life, your work? I think they are so important for your wellbeing.
