[#Ramadan + #detoxing] It’s the last few day of Ramadan. Just like any detox, you get into a flow. The first part is usually the hardest.
But for me it’s the sleep. As a circadian rhythm loving gal who loves getting a good 7 hours of sleep, I see #Ramadan as the #MonthoftheMoon. Where things come alive at by the moon and it’s low-key through the day - an inversion of sorts.
Proviso: there are lots of posts about the #religious and #spiritual aspects of Ramadan, so here are some quirky, practical things from my personal perspective of this month so far:
🙇🏻♀️ I seem to make lots of food-I-want-to-eat-later lists during the day only to find I am replete and quite full on a single date or a small meal by the time it’s time to eat 🤷🏻♀️
🙇🏻♀️ I know with strange accuracy the time of the moonrise (sunset) this month- for after sunset your fast is finished.
🙇🏻♀️ Soup. 🥣
🙇🏻♀️ When Easter coincided last week I now find myself eating mini eggs at strange hours of the night.
🙇🏻♀️ I have a surge of energy around midnight and find myself replying to emails and doing other creative work by the moon.
🙇🏻♀️Perilous naps. Perilous because they may go on too long. 😱
🙇🏻♀️ It’s a social month: (for some it’s the most social of the year). There are lots of gatherings around food in the evening. I decline more outings than I accept because… I like to #hitpause on many things this month.
🙇🏻♀️ Speaking of #hittingpause… I’ve paused something I love - running and intense workouts. I just stopped. I am really excited about starting again after Ramadan. #absencemakestheheartgrowfonder
🙇🏻♀️ After the first week, I went off drinking tea or coffee completely… peculiar. 🤔
🙇🏻♀️…and I usually faint at some point. Anyone else? 👀 So far no issues this year though. #wellbeingcheck ✅ 🙌
🙇🏻♀️ Did I mention soup? 😄
💬If you’re fasting, have you had any strange things happen when you changed your routine this month? I hope you’ve enjoyed the change of scene if you did.
To those observing - enjoy these last days.✨
📸 A few glimpses from my month of #RamadaninDubai so far. #Abayas, giant lanterns, family, sunsets, moonrises, soulful friends, nighttime walks, a chocolate eclair (can you spot it?), existential questions, and food. (Not all of which are captured here). 🤗
