“If everything is a priority, nothing is a priority.” #thinkwithme: In one of the best teacher training I’ve experienced, there was a checklist of things I needed to do in the lesson I was being observed for.
But the focus of that one observation was just 3 of the items on the list.
At the end of the observation, we didn’t go into great endless detail about every single checklist point.
I just got feedback on the 3 we were focusing on and how I could raise the bar on that section next time.
It seemed a little odd to ignore the rest of them so deliberately at the time.
But now I look back, it’s one of the things that made this training very effective. It even made the observation focus and feedback surprisingly pleasant, where they are often otherwise stressful.
When you’re given a hundred things you could do better next time, you often spin wheels trying to get at them all.
The focus area helped free me up to prioritise, and eased the burden (pitfall) of trying to do it all. 🙌
