How Nicknaming Boosts Productivity

[#productivity + #fun] Revealing the name of my massive water bottle (and three reasons why to name certain things).

Drumroll please…

The winning name, after many great entries, including ones that made me chuckle out loud, is……

Hy-dro! ✨👏

Yes! Here he is: “Hydro”. I tried a few of the names out over the last few days and this one stuck. It sounds a bit like “Hi Joe”, and goes well with the whole vibe Tim Dickens (my car) has going on too. 😬🙌

So why do I name my car, my water tank etc.? Why am I writing about doing this in the name of productivity?

It’s because nicknames like these can sometimes help good, positive habits form. For example:

💦When you give something or someone a nickname, it signifies it’s something you have a mutual understanding with, you know them well. The objects I name are ones that affect daily life and my habits - I need to know them well and how they work for many aspects of my productivity to work. I think it makes me more inclined to take good care of maintaining them too. 🤷🏻‍♀️

💦It also has to do with building good habits.

I have a friend who mostly ends their messages by saying “stay hydrated!” (MJ!). Hydration is a really important part of productivity - keeps the mind alert. There is so much research into the power of hydration. So I figure this is a good object to nickname and help make sure I keep it close and drink frequently.

💦It is just fun. Nicknaming certain objects - it makes people smile. It makes me smile.

When you lighten up and laugh a little, life feels better. Nicknaming certain objects is such a lighthearted, easy thing to do if your humour lends itself that way. And when I feel better, I’m generally more productive.

That’s it. The name of my bottle, Hydro, and 3 reasons why I do this.

💭What do you say? Any objects of your own that you nickname? I think this is so fun to do with learners as well - do you/would you do it with key objects in your classroom for your students?

P.S. Thanks to everyone who joined in with the bottle naming banter! What fun we have here. 🤣😁🙌
