[#travel + Northern Pakistan - Chitral] As we head at full speed into September, this past weekend I reflected on what August brought with it. You may know I did two major trips in August - one to Chitral, in Northern Pakistan, and another to Egypt. Many of you shared that you enjoyed hearing about the travels and reflections, so here are some memorable moments, to round off the Chitral trip:
1️⃣: The happiest man I ever did see. He carries this load up this great mountain every day (!). He was a joy to meet.
2️⃣: We watched a polo match on top of the driest mountain ever, and afterwards. I loved to see how the players all sat round together as the sun set. This was called Dolomutz polo ground, and until now nobody knows where the word Dolomutz came from.
3️⃣: This was at the final pass before you enter/exit Chitral proper after going through a 5+ KM long tunnel. Here you'll have all your documents checked for the umpteenth (but final) time. And the green arrow is where I am making a case for a little store with Chitrali rings and accessories to be set up so that tourists (like me) who didn't get a chance to shop properly can buy gifts on their way out. In this photo, my mum Margi, and #MrsSue were doing an impromptu signing of the guestbook over the car. As you do.
4️⃣: In Kalash village, the main religion is not Islam and the Kalash people have their own ways and customs. This place they live had the most spectacular views.
5️⃣: One of the customs for the Kalash is in the outfits they wear. As you can see, I tried a headpiece on and I can report it was quite heavy - I found it difficult to keep on!
6️⃣: At Nagar Fort Inn, we found some handcrafted goods made by the local ladies. I bought a bunch, including the hat in the photo...
7️⃣: ...which I promptly wore. This photo is fun for me because of the men in the background looking up as I settled our accounts.
Sitting upon a tree stump.
As you do.
8️⃣: I will never forget this bag of chips that was hand cooked and then weighed (!) in order to give me a price! They were very, very tasty.
9️⃣: You're in for typical views like this while driving around the beautiful valleys of Chitral.
1️⃣0️⃣: Me and Bruno the friendly dog, sitting in the orchard of Ayun Fort Inn.
1️⃣1️⃣: One of the most breathtaking experiences I've ever had, atop the Hindukush mountain ranges that we climbed on horse back.
I still can't believe that this trip happened, in the way it did. Legend says they have now opened a flight from Dubai straight to Skardu, which is another beautiful place in the KPK region of Pakistan. So... stay tuned. :)
For now, enjoy the photos - and if you have any questions, let me know.
