[#wellbeing + #runningwisdom✨] Here’s the problem: since Dubai isn’t a place for pedestrians, and since I love running, this creates a predicament related to running safely on roads, and also running in heat.
Today we will talk about the roads part.
So:
I have a #runningsafety concept that I apply when I run in open areas on roads.
It’s simple:
💡Run in the direction of oncoming traffic.💡
Might sound counterintuitive.
And maybe only safe for quieter roads.
But during a run the other day, I thought;
The same is true for most problems…
If a shadow is encroaching on you:
If there is a nagging inside your heart following you around.
Or a bully is pressurising you.
Or a debt is chasing you.
Turn around and face it.
Just like facing the oncoming traffic.
Look it in the eye.
Maybe even run in its direction.
It is easier to tell the cut of the cloak you are dealing with if you dare to take a look.
Nobody wants to live in a shadow or be chased by one.
You may find there isn’t really anything to be worried about once you turn around and face it.
You may be able to shine your own light on it and see it for what it is.
Or… you may find that by facing it, you scare it away anyway. 🤷🏻♀️
Problems are counterintuitively much safer this way round:
When you face them.
What do you say? Do you have any other running safety or dealing-with-problem protocols?
P.S. I have a lot of thoughts on my runs. This one idea kept chasing me over and over, so I figure it needed to see the world. #Facethetraffic
👟 (For the record, I have been told many times to just run on a treadmill. Alas, I cannot bear it. And I tend to fall off the thing. Ahem.)
